This page helps you shortlist a Canadian university from Nepal. It compares 36 universities that Nepali students often choose, explains how they differ, and shows what you need to get in.

Here is what you will find, in order:

  • An at-a-glance table of 36 universities: city, what each is known for and the IELTS score it asks for.
  • Three groups to match your goals: top research universities, smaller and more affordable universities, and career-focused universities with co-op and business programs. Each card links to our detailed guide or the university’s official website.
  • University or college, and which Canadian cities to consider.
  • Entry requirements, costs and intakes for Nepali students, followed by common questions.

A quick way to use it: if your grades and budget are strong, start with the research universities. If cost matters most, look at the affordable group. If you want work experience while you study, look at the co-op and career-focused group.

Which Canadian Universities Should Nepali Students Consider?

Should You Choose a University or a College in Canada?

Choose a university for a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree. Choose a college for a shorter, job-focused diploma or postgraduate certificate.

  • Length: a bachelor’s degree usually takes four years; college diplomas take one to three years.
  • English: most universities ask for IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0; many colleges accept 6.0.
  • Work permit after study: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees have no field-of-study limit for the PGWP. College programs must be in an eligible field if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024.
  • Cost: university tuition is usually higher. Compare both in our cost guide.

Which Canadian Cities Have Good Universities for Nepali Students?

Toronto and Vancouver have the most choice but the highest living costs. Smaller cities cost less and often have smaller classes.

What Do Nepali Students Need to Get Into a Canadian University?

You need strong academic results, an English test score (usually IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0) and, for the visa, a Letter of Acceptance, a PAL/TAL and proof of funds.

  • For a bachelor’s degree: +2 (NEB) with strong grades in subjects related to your program. Competitive programs such as engineering and computer science ask for higher marks and specific subjects.
  • For a master’s degree: a relevant bachelor’s degree. Many Canadian master’s programs ask for a four-year degree, so a three-year degree from Nepal may need extra study or a case-by-case review. Check each program page.
  • English: IELTS, PTE, TOEFL or Duolingo. See minimum IELTS and PTE scores for Canada.
  • Documents: transcripts, a Statement of Purpose, and reference letters for many graduate programs.
  • For the study permit: first-year tuition plus CAD 23,448 for living costs. See the full Canada student visa requirements and the application process.

How Much Does a Canadian University Cost, and When Can You Start?

International undergraduate tuition averages CAD 41,746 a year and graduate tuition CAD 24,028 (Statistics Canada, 2025/26), plus living costs. Tuition is lowest in Newfoundland and Labrador and highest in Ontario. See the full cost to study in Canada, and look for entrance awards in our scholarships guide.
