About Royal Roads University

Perched above the Pacific on a 260-hectare former Dunsmuir family estate, Royal Roads University (official site) surrounds a genuine Edwardian-era castle – Hatley Castle – inside Hatley Park National Historic Site in Colwood, on Vancouver Island near Victoria. Coal baron and former BC premier James Dunsmuir built the castle in 1908; the estate later trained Canadian naval officers as Royal Roads Military College from 1940 to 1995, then reopened as a public university the same year the military college closed.

Today around 4,500 learners from more than 60 countries study at Royal Roads, most of them through its trademark blended-learning model: short, intensive on-campus residencies at Hatley Park bookended by online coursework, built for people balancing study with work and life. If you want to study in Canada, Royal Roads is worth a look for applied, career-focused programs in business, tourism, communication, environment and leadership.
