Ask a Nepali student why they chose a college with barely 4,100 full-time students in a mining city ringed by lakes, and the answer is rarely rankings. It is usually something closer to affordable diploma programs, real co-op placements, and a campus where international students now genuinely outnumber Canadian ones.
Cambrian College was founded in 1967 as a trade school in Sudbury, Ontario, and has grown into the largest college in Northern Ontario, with campuses in Sudbury, Espanola, and Little Current. Between 2018 and 2024 alone, its international student population grew by more than 200%, so a Nepali student walking onto the Barrydowne Road campus today joins a genuinely international cohort, not a token handful of overseas classmates.
As the best consultancy in Nepal for Canada, Goreto has guided students through Cambrian’s application, visa, and settlement process end to end, and this page covers what actually matters before you apply. For the latest official details, Cambrian’s own international admissions page is worth bookmarking too.

International students can work part-time up to the hours permitted under their study permit conditions. Cambrian’s Career Centre, based at the Barrydowne Road campus, offers free one-on-one appointments, resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, and career-exploration sessions to current students – and that support does not expire once you graduate. Every Cambrian applicant needs a core set of documents, though a few extras may apply depending on your program:
For a full breakdown of study-abroad paperwork and how Goreto helps you prepare it, see our resources for abroad study page.
Cambrian reviews international applications on a rolling basis, but seats and study-permit processing time both run out well before the intake starts. As a general rule, aim to submit your application 9 to 12 months ahead of your target intake – earlier for the September intake, since it is the most competitive – so there is enough runway for offer, visa, and travel arrangements.

Cambrian Residence, right on the Barrydowne Road campus, houses up to 677 students across townhouse-style units (300 spots) and dorm-style rooms (377 spots). Rooms come fully furnished with free internet, and each floor has a shared kitchen available around the clock plus a common lounge for studying or hanging out. There is a staffed front desk with security on patrol 24 hours a day, and laundry facilities are located in the Laaman Centre. Living on campus also means you can book for just an academic term instead of signing a full 12-month lease. Contact the Residence Office at 705-566-8101 ext. 7583 for rates and applications.
If you would rather live off campus, Cambrian’s off-campus housing page lists rental resources and safety tips for Sudbury, and the college’s international student office can point you toward vetted listings to help you avoid rental scams that have affected some new arrivals in the city.
