About Humber Polytechnic

Humber Polytechnic sits along the Humber River and the shore of Lake Ontario in Toronto, and for nearly six decades it has built its reputation on career-ready, hands-on education rather than lecture-hall theory alone. Its legal name is still Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, but in August 2024 the school rebranded as Humber Polytechnic to reflect a teaching model that blends applied degrees, diplomas and graduate certificates with direct employer partnerships.

Founded in 1967, Humber now serves more than 86,000 learners, including roughly 9,300 international students studying alongside Canadian peers across its campuses. It is approved by the Canadian government to host international students, including applicants from Nepal, and is well known in Nepal’s study-abroad circles for its co-op placements and close ties to Toronto-area employers.

This page walks Nepalese students through what Humber actually offers — its campuses, programs, admission requirements and everyday student life — with support available through Goreto’s education counselling in Nepal for anyone applying to study in Canada.

Humber Polytechnic Campuses

Humber currently operates three locations, all in the Toronto area:

Programs At Humber Polytechnic

Humber offers more than 200 programs across 17 areas of interest — from business, media and applied technology to health sciences, hospitality and skilled trades — leading to certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor’s degrees and graduate certificates. Every program builds in some form of applied learning, whether that’s a co-op term, an internship or a capstone project with an industry partner.

Campus Life

International students at Humber Polytechnic have access to a full range of on-campus facilities and services, including:

  • On-campus residence at both North and Lakeshore campuses
  • Campus bookstores and dining services
  • On-site parking
  • Athletics and wellness facilities, including a pool at North Campus
  • The Learning Resource Commons, home to the North Campus library and student services

Humber Polytechnic Fees

Tuition varies widely by program and credential — a diploma costs less than a bachelor’s degree, and specialized programs (like nursing or the International Graduate School’s graduate certificates) carry their own fee schedules. Always confirm exact, current fees on the official Humber Polytechnic program page before applying, since published estimates change every intake.

Library

The Humber & University of Guelph-Humber Library runs a full research library on the North Campus (4th floor of the Learning Resource Commons) and the Lakeshore Learning Commons, which stays open 24/7 for currently enrolled students. Both locations offer research help, databases, e-books, study rooms and librarian support — see library.humber.ca/hours for current hours by location.

Career Services And Part-Time Work

Humber’s Advising & Career Services team, based at the Student Welcome & Resource Centre on the Lakeshore Campus, offers career coaching, resume reviews and mock interviews to every currently enrolled student, plus evening virtual coaching sessions for students who can’t make it to campus during the day.

Through Career Connect, students can browse job postings from Humber’s network of employer partners, apply for co-op and internship placements tied to their program, and track their applications. Eligible students can also apply for the Work Study program, which places students in paid, on-campus jobs that build transferable skills alongside their coursework.

International students who want to work part-time off campus must follow Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s study permit work rules, and should confirm their eligibility before accepting any position.

Upcoming Intakes At Humber Polytechnic

Humber runs three main intakes a year — September, January and May — and most programs use rolling admissions, meaning applications are reviewed as they arrive until each program fills up. Because popular programs close early, Nepalese applicants are generally advised to apply well ahead of their target intake rather than wait for a published deadline.

Admission Requirements For Humber Polytechnic

Documents Required

Requirements vary slightly by program and credential level, but most Humber applications ask for:

  1. Completed application form and passport copy
  2. Academic transcripts and certificates (grade 10, grade 12, and any diploma/bachelor’s coursework)
  3. Official IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score report
  4. Statement of purpose (SOP) and resume
  5. Proof of funds and, where required, an affidavit of financial support from a sponsor
  6. Letters of recommendation, where the program requires them

For a full, checklist-style breakdown of everything Nepalese students typically need to prepare, see Goreto’s resources for studying abroad.

Deadline For Admissions

Humber does not publish a single fixed deadline — most programs run on rolling admissions until seats fill. As a general rule, Nepalese applicants should apply 9–12 months before their target intake (September, January or May) to leave enough time for a decision, a study permit application and travel planning. Popular programs close early, so applying as soon as your documents are ready is safer than waiting.

Accommodation For Nepalese Students Studying At Humber Polytechnic

Humber offers on-campus residence for more than 1,700 students across North Campus (three residence buildings, about 1,019 beds) and Lakeshore Campus (around 426 beds). Rooms are offered first-come, first-served once you accept your offer of admission, so applying for residence early matters — a non-refundable deposit is required through the Residence Portal to hold a room. Full details and applications are on the official Housing page.

On-Campus Accommodation

Most residence rooms are private, and fees are billed for the academic year rather than a full 12 months, so students only pay for the months they are actually studying. Because space is limited and a set share is reserved for incoming international students, Nepalese applicants should apply for residence as soon as they accept their offer.

Off-Campus Accommodation

Students who do not secure on-campus housing can get support finding shared apartments, rentals or homestay placements through Humber’s International Student Life – Residence & Housing office, which also advises on budgeting, leases and tenant rights in Ontario.
