Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has sat on a ridge above downtown Calgary since 1916, and it built its reputation the hard way: by turning out electricians, welders, chefs, and engineering technologists that Alberta’s oil, construction and hospitality industries actually hired. SAIT’s catalogue leans heavily toward applied credentials. Because most SAIT programs are built around work-integrated learning — apprenticeship terms, co-op placements, practicums or capstone projects with an industry partner — a lot of students already have an employer connection before they graduate.
