If you are planning to study abroad from Nepal, this is one of the most useful NOC updates you should know right now.
The No Objection Certificate (NOC) is an official document for Nepali students going abroad for study. It is issued through Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST). It is commonly needed during the foreign study process, especially when students need to move ahead with education-related payments and documentation and students usually apply for it through the official NOC online portal.
Now, in a major relief for students, Nepal’s NOC system has introduced a more convenient home-based process. According to reporting published on April 19, 2026, students can now apply for the NOC from home, and once approved, they can download and print the certificate themselves from their profile.
Before this update, many students still had to visit the NOC branch in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur for parts of the process, especially when university-level certificate verification could not be completed digitally. This new update is a big relief for many students because the NOC process has often felt stressful, confusing, and time-consuming. For students outside Kathmandu Valley or those already busy with admission, visa, and financial preparation, not having to travel just for NOC verification can save both time and hassle. This can make the overall process easier and more convenient for many students. This also means eligible students can now apply online, complete the process through the system, and then download the approved NOC from their own profile. The approved NOC can be printed and used by the student. The certificate also includes a QR code for verification.
Now, the system has been integrated with Tribhuvan University (TU) and Kathmandu University (KU) through API connection. Because of this, certificate details for many applicants can now be verified digitally using the information submitted in the application, reducing the need for in-person visits.
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
| Many students still had to go to the NOC office in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur for physical verification in some cases. | Many eligible students can complete more of the process from home. |
| For postgraduate and higher studies, university certificate verification could still require an office visit because those records were not fully integrated. | After TU and KU integration, university certificate details can now be verified digitally in many cases. |
| The process felt more stressful for many students because it could involve extra visits and waiting. | The latest update can make the process easier, faster, and more convenient for many applicants. |
Yes. Nepal had already moved to an online self-print NOC system on May 15, 2023. At that time, students were allowed to apply and print the NOC online instead of following the older semi-online model where they filled the form online and then had to visit the branch on the assigned date.
So, the latest 2026 update should be understood as a further improvement in the process, not the first time NOC became online. The key new point is that university verification has now become easier for many students because of TU and KU integration.
This is another important part. According to the April 19, 2026 report, NOC revenue is now collected fully online through the government’s Revenue Information Cashless Management System (RCMIS).
Also, when the online self-print system was launched in May 2023, Nepal’s Education Minister had already said students could pay the NOC fee online. That means the newer update is not simply about online payment alone. The bigger relief is that verification for many university-level applicants is becoming more faceless and home-based too.
Students should still make sure their personal details, registration details, and uploaded academic documents are correct while applying. The process is now easier, but students should still follow the official NOC portal carefully because some cases may still depend on document matching and system verification. This caution is based on how the system works and on the fact that the April 19 report explains that the update mainly makes verification easier through system integration. It does not clearly say that every single case will be handled the same way without any exception.
This is a genuinely helpful update. The NOC process was already online, but this latest change makes it easier for many applicants to complete university-related verification and receive the NOC letter from home without going through as much hassle as before.
It can save time, reduce unnecessary travel, and make one important step of the study abroad process feel a little less stressful. For students who are already managing admission, visa, and financial documents, that kind of relief can make a real difference.
