Australia remains one of the top study destinations for Nepali students, but if you’re planning to apply this year, there’s an important update you should know.
From 1 July 2026, the Australian Government has increased the Student Visa (Subclass 500) application fee from AUD 2,000 to AUD 2,500. While this means a higher upfront application cost, it does not change the visa requirements, university admission process, or your chances of visa approval. Here’s what this latest Australia visa update means for students applying from Nepal.
| Details | Before (Until 30 June 2026) | From 1 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Student Visa (Subclass 500) Fee | AUD 2,000 | AUD 2,500 |
| Increase | — | AUD 500 (25%) |
|Note: The visa application fee is a one-time government charge and is separate from your tuition fees, health insurance (OSHC), accommodation, and living expenses.
The good news is that this change only affects the visa application charge. It does not change:
In other words, if you meet the eligibility requirements and submit a complete and genuine application, the visa fee increase alone does not affect your chances of receiving a student visa.
The answer is yes, but only slightly.
The additional AUD 500 is a one-time application fee paid to the Australian Government. Compared with tuition fees and living expenses throughout your studies, it represents only a small part of the overall cost of studying in Australia.
If Australia is your preferred destination, this update shouldn’t discourage you from pursuing your education goals. Instead, it’s a reminder to plan your finances early and stay informed about the latest immigration updates.
Absolutely. Australia continues to attract thousands of international students every year because of its globally recognised universities, high-quality education, multicultural environment, research opportunities, and excellent graduate career prospects. Australian universities also continue to offer scholarships for eligible international students, helping reduce the overall cost of studying abroad.
Changes to visa policies are common and staying informed is one of the best ways to prepare for your study abroad journey.
If you’re planning to study in Australia from Nepal, make sure you understand the latest visa requirements, prepare your documents carefully and budget for the updated application fee before submitting your visa application.

From 1 July 2026, the Australian Government increased the Student Visa (Subclass 500) application fee from AUD 2,000 to AUD 2,500 for most international students, including applicants from Nepal.
Yes. If you’re applying for an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) from Nepal on or after 1 July 2026, you’ll need to pay the updated application fee of AUD 2,500, unless you qualify for a specific government concession.
No. The visa application fee has no impact on whether your visa is approved. Your application is assessed based on the Australian Government’s student visa requirements, including eligibility, supporting documents, and whether you meet the Genuine Student requirements.
