The UK offers three intakes in 2026 for international students, including those from Nepal. These entry periods take place in January, April/May, and September, each with its own application deadlines, course & university availability, and preparation timelines.
According to the UK Home Office data, 20,572 Nepali students were granted UK study visas in 2025, compared to just over 9,000 in 2024. This growing number shows that more students from Nepal are choosing the UK for higher education. If you are one of these interested students, you need to understand how many intakes are available in 2026 and when to start applying.
This guide explains UK intakes for Nepalese students in 2026, including the main intake in the UK, alternative intakes, and important application deadlines.
There are 3 major UK intakes for Nepalese students: Autumn (September/October), Winter (January/February), and Summer (April/May). Not all universities offer all three intakes, and each intake has different course availability and application deadlines. When selecting an intake, you must make the decision based on whether you have enough time to prepare before that intake’s deadline approaches and program availability.
The Autumn intake (September/October) is the main intake in the UK and the most popular choice for Nepalese students. During this period, the highest number of courses, universities, and seats is available.
This intake marks the start of the academic year in the United Kingdom. Since it is the primary admission cycle, students get the widest range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, PhD, and other programs in almost all major universities.
For Nepalese students, the September intake offers three main advantages:
Since this is the most competitive intake, students should start preparing at least 8–12 months before September 2026. Early planning gives more time for English test preparation, document collection, and timely application submission.
The Winter intake (January/February) is the second major intake in the UK and is a good alternative for students who missed the September intake. This intake offers selected undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Not all courses are available, but many universities still admit students into important or popular programs during this period.
For Nepalese students, the January intake can be suitable in these situations:
Students planning for the January 2027 intake should start preparing by March or April 2026. Early preparation helps secure seats in available programs, prepare for IELTS/PTE better, and avoid last-minute pressure.
The Summer intake (April/May) is the smallest in the UK. Only a limited number of universities and specific programs accept students during this period. Students should select this intake only if their specific program starts in April or May.
This intake does not follow the main academic calendar in the United Kingdom. Because of this, the number of available courses is much lower compared to September and January intakes.
For Nepalese students, the April/May intake is suitable in these cases:
The summer intake is not widely available across all UK universities, so Nepalese students should carefully check course availability before choosing it.
The September intake (Autumn) is the best choice for most Nepalese students because it offers the most courses & universities, more scholarship opportunities, and a student-friendly academic start.
Why September is preferred:
If you need more preparation time or missed the September deadline, the January intake is a good second option. Course availability and scholarships are more limited compared to September, but many reputable universities still accept applications.
January intake is suitable if:
The April/May intake is not ideal for most students. It should only be chosen if your specific program starts during this period. Course and funding options are extremely limited.
For most Nepalese students applying to universities in the UK, September remains the safest and most opportunity-rich intake, while January serves as a great backup.
Nepali students can apply for a UK student visa up to 6 months before the course start date. You cannot apply earlier than this. For example, if your course begins on 14 September 2026, the earliest visa application date is 14 March 2026. It is best to apply as soon as this 6-month period opens, once you have received your CAS and completed the required steps.
University application deadlines are different from visa timelines. Most universities begin accepting applications several months before the intake, and popular courses may close early once seats are filled. Because of this, students should prepare and submit their university applications as early as possible after applications open.
Students planning for the April/May 2026 intake should start applying between October 2025 and January 2026.
Students must check course availability carefully before applying. Late applications may not be accepted if seats are already filled.
The September 2026 intake has the longest application window and the highest number of applicants.
General timeline:
Nepalese students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the UK should apply between October 2025 and January 2026, and those pursuing postgraduate degrees must apply between December 2025 and June 2026. The earlier the better.
Students targeting the January 2027 intake should begin applications between August and November 2026.
As fewer programs are available, early preparation and early submission are recommended for students from Nepal applying to universities in the UK.

Some universities offer International Summer Schools or short-term programs during the summer. These are not full-degree intakes, and only last 3 to 4 weeks. September remains the primary intake for all degrees, with January available for some popular postgraduate and fewer undergraduate programs.
Nepalese students should begin preparing 8 to 12 months before their intended intake, which is well before the 6-month visa application window opens. Since you can only apply for a UK student visa 6 months before your course officially starts, all major preparation should be completed before that period begins.
Before the 6-month mark, students should:
By completing these steps early, students can receive their CAS on time and apply for their visa as soon as the eligible period begins. If you are unsure where to start, speaking with an expert education counsellor can help you plan your 2026 UK intake smoothly and confidently.
The UK has 3 main intakes: September (Autumn), January (Winter), and April/May (Summer). September offers the highest number of courses, and January is a good alternative.
The September (Autumn) intake is the main intake in the UK. Most universities start their academic year in September, and the majority of undergraduate and postgraduate programs begin during this period.
For the January 2027 intake, you should apply to universities between August and November 2026. Deadlines vary by university, and postgraduate programs are more commonly available than undergraduate programs.
The fall intake in the UK refers to the Autumn/September intake. Applications typically open in October of the previous year, and undergraduate deadlines are often around January 31, while postgraduate deadlines can extend until June, depending on the university.
