Algoma University

Algoma University is a teaching-focused and student-centred post-secondary institution, specializing in liberal arts, sciences, management and professional degree programs. Located on the former site of the Shingwauk Indian Residential School, Algoma U has a special mission to provide and cultivate cross-cultural learning between Aboriginal populations and other communities. Algoma U also offers satellite programming in Brampton and Timmins, Ontario.

You’ve probably never heard of Algoma University. That’s OK—they want to keep it that way and work hard to not get in the news or be spreading all of their messages across Canada. That being said, they offer a lot of value for people living in the northern parts of Ontario, which also include a lot of tourists during the summer months. They offer something for everyone—from liberal arts to management to science and professional programs—but are mostly focused on undergrads and people looking to finish their degree.

Algoma is also located on what used to be the Shingwauk Indian Residential School, where over 50 First Nation, Métis and Inuit students were relocated from their provinces of origin and forced to assimilate into Euro-Canadian society.
